The Potsdam Pitches were founded in the fall of 2007 when a group of four students, Bryan Elsesser, Jordan Bell, Justin Stockslager, and Pamela Jacovina came together to start the first successful mixed a cappella group on the SUNY Potsdam campus. Within a month the team of four collaborated with a group of ten students and became the Potsdam Pitches. The group ultimately became an organization built on a love for singing and had their debut performance at the Vaudevillian Invitational in Potsdam, New York in November 2007
In the winter of 2007, the group expanded their power and size to 12 members. On April 18th, 2008 the Potsdam Pitches hosted their first annual Spring Invitational with the Potsdam A# Arrangement and with McGill University’s Soulstice. Now a group of 17, they are a powerful a cappella group on the SUNY Potsdam campus. They exhibit a blend and harmony that carries a different twist than has been seen before, hence the slogan “a cappella on a Whole Different Pitch"
The Pitches have performed at countless invitationals, including the Buffalo Chips, the Rensselyrics, and McGill University's Soulstice. They have toured across and outside of New York State to Buffalo, Poughkeepsie, St. Lawrence County, Long Island, and Bennington, VT. They have also performed at several weddings in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties, as well as in the Albany area.
In the years since their formation, the Pitches have continually toured schools and worked with children ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, as well as participated in various philanthropic performances. They continue to spread the love of a cappella in various schools and communities. After finishing up their 9th invitational, the Potsdam Pitches are excited to celebrate their 10th invitational together and look forward to the years and generations of Pitches to come!
